Lynchburg, VA Residence
Maurice Jennings + David McKee Architects

The heavily wooded eight-acre site features a one-hundred foot high bluff overlooking the James River.  The residence is sited to take advantage of the dramatic view and minimize the impact on the existing landscape.  One may enter either under the large trellis and through the entry garden, or by the stone colonnade that leads from the car shelter to the entry.

The clients requested a house that would provide entertainment space both inside and out.  Balconies overlooking the river allow a place to enjoy the serenity of the water and a screened porch provides a restful space for morning coffee and reading.  Deep projecting roofs protect the large glass walls from the summer sun and create a covered shelter for entertaining.
